The Leapfrog Pink Ball is one of the premiere events of the 2010 Cape Town Pride Festival which runs over the period 26 February till 7 March.
This year only 150 tickets would have been available because the Pink Ball was planned to take place aboard the Sea Princess. Unfortunately, on 28 January, the Sea Princess was involved in an accident while in Murrays Bay Harbour at Robben Island. The damages to the vessel have turned out to be more extensive than previously thought and the Sea Princess is unlikely to be repaired by 27 February. Thankfully the event planning committee will no longer need to practice life saving skills, co-ordinated water ballet and learning the soundtrack to Titanic, and Cape Town's gay elite can pack away their water-wings.
The magnificent new Cape Quarter's Event Venue will be the venue for the Leapfrog Pink Ball on Saturday 27 February 2010 starting at 6pm. This stunning venue can comfortably accommodate 300 people who'll be treated to a memorable party including a diversity of finger foods from various restaurants and a slick entertainment line-up featuring DJ Fluid from Johannesburg. A silent auction will be conducted to raise funds for the Pride Shelter Trust and loads of prizes will be given away. The winners of the Best of GayTown Awards will also be announced. These fun awards are designed to motivate, inspire and celebrate the Mother City's gay community and to encourage the continued development of gay business in Cape Town. The awards are split into various categories, including awards for the best dressed individuals, best dressed couple and the best King or Queen of the Pink Ball.
Tickets, costing R250, will be on sale from the Pride Office, 4A Dixon Street, De Waterkant - call 0861 9PRIDE for more info, or visit the Pride website at www.capetownpride.org for updates. People who were not able to purchase tickets for the nearly sold-out Sea Princess voyage can now also attend the Pink Ball - without their water-wings!
